![]() And since the driving population has always been taught that flashing red lights on the dash are bad, and to check what it tells, that is why they picked that one. If I were to guess, I think they made the overheat warning constant due to a temp gauge, and flash for low coolant because there is no "gauge". EIther way with the constant on, it isnt good and shouldnt be continued driven.Īs of the onset of OBD2, both sensors output is watched by the PCM, and if something isnt right, it will set a code and illuminate the light. If it just comes on and stays on while driving, there is a discrepancy between ECT and TFT or ECT is out of range or TFT is out of range (overheating). If the TEMP/LEVEL light blinks then stays on, your coolant level is low. It will spill the coolant in the tank, but not much more, you'll see the hoses going to it fairly easy when examining it.after you loosen it check the sensor coolant level lead that DonP refers too(it's on the underside of the reservoir.a nd see if it didn't get knocked loose somehow.otherwise I believe it just needs a good cleaning.the ECTS as Don said won't cause the blinking lights. I'm just a little suspicious of the cause because it wasn't blinking like this until after I did all that maintenance.maybe the new ECTS is picking up something that the previous one wasn't? Is it going to spill coolant everywhere when I take it out? Is there a hole in the bottom or something?ĮDIT: to be more specific, the light starts blinking within 10 seconds of starting my car, and continues to blink afterwards. I never knew it was safe to just take out the coolant reservoir.I will do that later on and clean it out. The temp gauge never goes up that high.never even gets to the halfway point, so I guess overheating isn't an issue. I did add a little extra coolant just to be sure but the problem persisted. I couldn't really get the grime out and didn't replace the connector because there was no slime/corrosion.Ĭould my coolant/tranny fluid be overheating? Any ideas? When I replacement the ECTS, I checked the connector and there was no corrosion, however there was some grime in between the black connector and the wires. New one seems to be fine, no leaks or anything.Īlso had AC serviced after accident.blows cold, but I notice a lot of wetness surrounding the AC after usage. ![]() The car was in an accident several weeks ago, needed lots of front end work including radiator replacement. Coolant level is good, and no leaks anywhere to be seen. Over the weekend I did the following services to my 97 SL2 auto:Ĭar is still running a little sluggish but is shifting better than before.īut now, two days later, I'm driving to work and my coolant light is blinking. ![]() Hello everyone, this forum has been very helpful to me in my last thread. ![]()
